Data Entry
Use this form for new mobile and/or handheld radio station licence applications. If you wish to amend an existing mobile radio licence, please use the full form.
Reference Information
This section is used to identify you application. At the top, please enter a title for this application as Your Reference Number. This title will help you identify your application as your application is being processed. The company code is the account number selected from the previous page. If you have an account in more than one Industry Canada office, you can choose an office from the drop-down list.
Person to Contact Regarding this Application
Please enter the name, phone number, and e-mail address of the person who can answer questions about this application. (This may not be the same person as named as a contact for the account.)
As your licence application is processed, we will send automated e-mail messages to this address to inform you of the application status. To receive these messages at more than one address, enter the addresses separated by a comma. If you do not wish to receive these messages, leave this field blank.
After your application is received by the Department, the first page will have e-mail hyperlinks for both your District Office and the Spectrum Management Officer assigned to your application.
Additional Information/Special Requirements
This section provides a place to enter any additional information or special requests regarding your application. If you have any special instructions, restrictions, questions, or additional information, please enter that information here.
System Information
Some mobile station owners may be operating their station while under contract to another licensee. In this situation, the mobile station owner will be using that licensee's assigned frequencies in the same area with the licensee's permission. For example, the owner of a logging truck who is working for a forestry company will need to use that company's frequencies for on-the-job communications. In a situation like this, please answer "yes" to the question Is this mobile station(s) communicating with another licensee while under contract? You should provide additional information about that licensee and your agreement in the Special Requirements area. Note that Industry Canada may request written confirmation of this agreement.
Area of Operation
Name the area where the mobile stations will be used, typically the specific municipality or region where the mobile stations may be found.
Mobile Station Details
The form allows you to apply to licence two specific types of mobile systems based on the power at which they operate. All other technical details for the systems should be the same. By specifying the number of a type of station, you will be applying for one licence for that type that authorizes that number of identical stations. Low power stations (typically hand-held equipment) will be authorized to use a maximum effective radiated power (ERP) of 5 Watts. Full power stations (i.e., mobile systems) will be authorized for a maximum ERP of 30 Watts (or 60 Watts in frequencies from 27.41 to 50 MHz).
Centre of Operation and Area
A mobile-to-mobile frequency is used only to communicate with other mobile stations, not with a fixed (base) station. If your system includes any mobile-to-mobile frequencies, complete all fields in this area to specify the geographic area where the mobile-to-mobile frequency will be used. This area is defined in two ways: the latitude and longitude of the centre and radius of a circle on a map that encloses the area, and a verbal description of the area.
Frequency Information
The following three sections on the form are used to specify the frequencies that you wish to use on your mobile stations. All frequencies requested in all three sections will be assigned to each station being applied for. You must request a frequency in at least one section, but you can also request frequencies in any combination of the available sections and fields.
Request for New Frequency Assignment
Use this section if you do not know the specific frequency you would like to use. Instead, indicate the number and type of frequency, then select a frequency band supported by your equipment. Industry Canada will select and assign the indicated number of frequencies from that band.
If your frequency will communicate only with other mobile stations, select the Mobile to mobile check box. In the last column, identify the station(s) and/or repeaters that you will be communicating with on this frequency.
Specific Frequencies Requested
Use this section if you know the specific frequencies you would like to use. Specify the value of up to 10 frequency pairs in the transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) fields.
Request for Standard Frequency Group (Industry Canada Licence Appendix)
Use this section if you would like to apply for a standard complement of frequencies as listed on an Industry Canada Licence Appendix. From the drop-down lists, select one or more appendixes that apply to your location and intended use.
Bandwidth and Class of Emission
The bandwidth and class of emission describe the properties and characteristics of your signal. You will need to provide the necessary Bandwidth (in kHz) and three-character Class of Emission code that describes your radio emission.
For your convenience, you can select from the common bandwidth and class of emission values on the drop-down lists. To enter a value manually, first select "Other" from the drop-down list before entering a value.
